Christmas decorations for the tree

The decorating Christmas tree is undoubtedly the most widespread Christmas tradition in Denmark. For most people, a Christmas Eve without a tree would be highly unimaginable and would not seem right.

Approximately 1 million trees are sold each year in Denmark with the purpose of decorating our living rooms, businesses, shops, etc. Obviously, all these beautiful trees deserve to be decorated with adorable Christmas decorations.

In this category, you can also find common equipment that you need when setting up the tree at home.

The Christmas tree tradition

Like other Christmas heritages, we have adopted the tradition of having a Christmas tree directly from our southern neighbors in Germany. The origins date back to 16th-century Bern, Freiburg and Strasbourg.

Both in the Ase belief and in Christianity, the tree has a great symbolic meaning. The tree of life from the Garden of Eden and later, evergreen trees were considered a sign of eternal life.

In Denmark, the tradition arrived in the 19th century. In the beginning, it was mainly Danish / German families that adopted the custom, while in general a tree inside the house was considered a crazy invention.

However, the custom of having a Christmas tree persisted for several hundred years. Nowadays, much of the Christmas tree decorations we hang on the tree derive from hundred years old traditions.

The shinning Christmas tree

Nowadays, the family's hunt for the right Christmas tree is a very special highlight of the winter season. When the tree has been felled or simply picked up from the Christmas tree seller, it is time to put it up in a suitable tree stand and have it placed perfectly in the home.

How and when the tree is decorated often depends on each family. However, it cannot be avoided that it must be decorated.

Nostalgic or modern Christmas tree decorations?

We believe that a Christmas tree should be as personal as possible, so that there is no doubt that it belongs to your family. Our range of Christmas tree decorations is therefore also very broad. Therefore, you can find the Christmas decoration that best reflects your family.

Perhaps your family is mostly into nostalgic and traditional Christmas decorations, such as mouth-blown and hand-painted glass balls, flag garlands and bright white lights or your family is more modern and follows the decor trends and Christmas trends that vary from year to year. In this case, you should look for the exclusive velour Christmas decorations and beautifully combined them with Nordic Christmas decorations made of wood.

Only your imagination sets the limits on how your family's Christmas tree should look.

The top star is mandatory

The Christmas tree should be decorated with the ornaments, lights and much else that you like best. However, there is probably one single piece of Christmas tree decoration that most Danes do not think could be any different, namely the crowning glory, the top star.

The top star is of great symbolic importance. Do you think about the symbolism when you put the star on top of your Christmas tree?

As Christians, we celebrate the birth of Jesus and the star on top of the tree is supposed to symbolize the star of Bethlehem, which shone over the stable, where His birth took place and which lead the three wise men over there.
