Traditionally, the "Easter egg" had many different meanings and purposes. Although the egg was a fine food, which for some was only consumed on rare occasions, these were also used in games on Easter. There were many different games, where you either won or destroyed the opponent's eggs.
Nowadays, you blow eggs, only to be left with the shell, which can be beautifully painted, but back in the days, you did not only paint the eggs. They were boiled, because the shell can easily absorb color, using natural ingredients. These eggs were turned for example, red, yellow, brown or green color. The most used color was red, as it symbolized the blood of Jesus when He was nailed to the cross.
